Tested out the flex of the Loaded Dervish Flex 1 longboard. Longboarding couldn't be done this day so I decided to test out my dervish longboard on the carpet for the flex.

More Girls that ever before are taking Part in Skateboarding

In the past, girls that play skateboards were always considered to be Tom Boys. However, this particular sport has taken on a new light with girls, especially those from about 10 to 14 years of age. The fact that society is now more accepting of girls taking part in such activities certainly helps.

While many girls are comfortable skateboarding with male siblings or friends, others aren’t. They feel that they are left out or that there is just too much to prove among the males. This is why you will often see groups of girls skateboarding together.

There is support to be found in many forms too for girls interested in skateboarding. There are websites and even magazines dedicated to answering their questions and providing them with information. Such products are evidence that there are plenty of people out there that love the idea of girls getting involved.

While the industry of skateboards and accessories is still mainly geared towards males, there is more of a selection for girls than before. The fact that anyone can have a skateboard custom made for them or they can buy the pieces and make it on their own gives them more options as well.

However, there are complete lines of skateboards, accessories, and even protective gear that are developed specifically for girls. The producers of such products are starting to see that they have shut out a great source of sales for too long.

If you find that your selection of such items is limited locally, make sure you go online. There are some companies out there that only make skateboards and gear for girls. There is no shortage of selection for great prices online.

Any girl that is interested in skateboarding should look into it further and find out if it is for them. Too many of them though are still intimidated by the male dominance of the sport. Finding the right way to learn and taking the time to find the right skateboarding equipment though is a great way to get started. It is often said that everything old is new again. If you follow the world of skateboard you may have noticed that many people are getting back to the basics of the sport. Many skills and tricks from the 80’s and 90’s that faded out of the scene long ago are now being introduced again.

Many people refer to this movement as skating old school. That is a term that should be viewed as endearing though instead of in a negative light. The key to really enjoying skateboarding is to be an individual first. This means you take the time to find those moves and tricks that you can relate to.

If you are interested in old school moves to perform on your skateboard, there are plenty of videos online. You may not expect that since the internet wasn’t huge back in the 80’s and 90’s. However, the fact that that so many people are reviving life into them means there are updated versions of them being added all the time. A search of YouTube for example will show you hundreds of videos that you can learn from.

Getting back to the basics with skateboarding can be refreshing. If you think you have learned all there is to do with one, and then this can offer you a new challenge. Find out what you like about these moves and then use them. You can even make variations of them that are uniquely your own.

Chances are you will find some moves that you want to take part in. Famous Girls in Skateboarding

While there aren’t as many famous girls in skateboarding, they do exist. Some of them ride on professional skateboards do many tricks as male pros do. They have helped to bring attention to the fact that this isn’t just a sport for males to take part in.


Elissa Steamer is considered to be the very best female skateboarder in the world. She is held in high regard due to being the first to really open up the door for females to take part in the professional world of skateboarding. While most of her fans are females, most males admit that they can’t help but be impressed by her moves. The fact that she is so gorgeous doesn’t hurt either!


Vanessa Torres is also well known in the world of skateboarding. She continues to perform amazing tricks that are risky and very intense. She is a very fast street skater and she has won numerous competitions out there. She gets very high reviews from male professional skater Tony Hawk. In fact, Torres was the first female skateboarder to be asked to be in one of the many Tony Hawk skating video games. She is featured in Proving Ground which is a great way to show girls that skateboarding is for both sexes.


Jessie van Roechoudt taught herself how to ride a skateboard when she was a young girl. Her parents wouldn’t agree to buy her one, so she fixed up one she found in the trash new her home. Her goal is to help girls in the sport of skateboarding to get more than just recognition for their talent. She wants to see them earn respect in the sport as well. One of her accomplishments involves getting ESPN to commit to equal prizes and events for both males and females in the skateboarding events that they host.


For females that are interested in skateboarding, the door is open to take part in it on many levels. You don’t have anything to prove to society so follow your own passion for it. Try to have fun and to continue learning new skills. You may just end up finding yourself listed with other famous girls in the world of skateboarding in the future. There is plenty of information about the achievements of these women online and in magazines so make sure you take the time to find out more about them.

Don’t let your Own Fears Prevent your Children from Skateboarding

It is no secret that the sport of skateboarding has a bad reputation. We too often hear about kids fallen down from skateboards and getting seriously injured. However, those that have the right equipment to ride on as well as properly fitting safety equipment are less likely to fall into that category.


Parents should be involved in the decision for their children to skateboard. However, you need to have a very open mind about it instead of immediately letting your fears take control. Find out why they are interested in skateboarding.


You can use their passion for skateboarding to help with many things. For example they will be developing skills such as patience and learning the value of practicing when it comes to mastering something that they are interested in. These are skills that can carry over to many areas of their life now and as adults.


You can also set guidelines about where they can ride their skateboard. You may be fine with them going to the local skate park or just hanging out down the block with friends. If you don’t want them skating in certain areas then you need to discuss that with your child.


Granted, it can be difficult to let go of your fears when it comes to your child and skateboarding. However, if you have provided them with guidelines quality skateboards and well as the safety equipment they need then there isn’t really any reason to worry so much.


Instead of letting fear get the best of you, be supportive of your child’s interest in this sport. Encourage them to practice and take the time to watch them perform the skills that they have learned for you. They will take pride in their efforts and you can show them that while you may not have chose that sport yourself, you are always going to be there to support what they take an interest in.
